To that end, Will can “buy†limited titan powers, like slowing time, immortality, and super damage.įor all the uninspired action here, there’s nothing particularly terrible in Will Rock either. (Yes, the story is actually more intellectual then the gameplay). The one twist is the use of “Titan Powers.†Will has been granted godly powers by Prometheus to defeat the evil onslaught of the Greek gods’ attempt to escape their prison and reclaim their throne. A pistol with endless shots, a shotgun, rocket launcher, sniper crossbow, a minigun, an acid gun, a shovel… it’s all a bad case of been there, done that many, many times before. Brain dead puzzles break up the otherwise seemingly endless gauntlet run of overkill, and some of the level design is decent, but the game is just missing any kind of spark.Įven the weapons feel hackneyed. The whole game has a tired feel to it, suggesting that the developers really had no idea on how to expand on the action, so they just threw in annoying monsters everywhere and hoped no one would notice the lack of innovation. The problem is that it’s not very good action. The 3D engine can shove hundreds of them on the screen at a time, and yes, there’s no shortage of gory action. Sure, it has hordes of slavering monsters hungry for your flesh at every turn. The problem is that shooters have come a long way, even since Sam, and while that wonder from Croatia filled a niche at the time (and was a ton of fun), it was also a one-note samba that not even the sequel could play as sweetly. In fact, when you think of Will Rock, think “what if someone modded Serious Sam so that it had a Greek/Roman theme instead of an Egyptian one?†Because, that’s exactly what you have in this budget title. Not only does he have an absurdly cheesy name, but he’s stuck in a middling Serious Sam clone.
